A year ago tragedy shattered Mazey’s life into pieces. Since then she’s been scrambling to try to fit those pieces back together, but keeps feeling like she’s missing something... until she moves back home and sees Phoenix again for the first time in a long time. With him she feels like everything is okay, like she might be able to start healing. But how can she start healing when the past won’t stop haunting her?

If you have triggers, please read below to see them. However, if you don't have triggers, the book is better read without seeing them. Look if you have any!

TW  Abortion and mentions of r*pe, murder, & violence

 ******REVIEW*******

Mazey tragically lost her wife and was left with nothing. She was invited back to a place she once called home.  Not everyone welcomed her back with open arms. Her foster mother is rude and masty towards her and blames Mazey for her daughter's death. Mazey also runs into her wife's brother Phoenix, who she has a past with, especially on the night of her wife's death.

This is my first story by Ciara Fineman. It was a very unique story. This isn't your average "triangle", however, a struggle of moving forward and holding on to the past. This story was heartbreaking, raw, and realistic. If you are looking for a happy ending, this is not the story for that.

I received an ARC and voluntarily gave my honest opinion and review

Seek (Project Xol #1) by Amabel Daniels

 Blurb:
Luke Dixon enters the fray, believing his neighbor is being attacked. Never one to ignore someone in distress, he’s then shocked to realize he’s the one needing rescue. Bound together through violence, Cassidy and Luke must come to trust each other as they embark on a search, armed only with the key and Rosa’s cryptic directions. It’s a journey with unexpected answers and decades-old research. A search with more questions…and a lethal enemy who returns when least expected. (less)

It’s been months since Cassidy Shaw has heard from her mother, Rosa, a world-renown scientist. When she does, it’s in the form of an urgent edict to retrieve a key. Arriving at Rosa’s apartment in Cincinnati, Cassidy encounters strangers. One man who seems determined to silence her. The other, could he be her savior?

REVIEW

It was normal for Cassidy's adopted mother, Rosa, to go MIA for a while. It wasn't until Cassidy received a suspicious letter when she started to worry. Upon checking out her mother's apartment, she discovers that there's something off about her disappearance. She was viciously attacked by a strange man and was rescued by Rosa's neighbor, Luke. Everything went downhill from there.
**Does end on a cliffhanger***
This was a pretty decent read. It was hard for me to stay focused at times but when I finally did, I couldn't stop. I absolutely loved the unlikely duo of Luke and Cassidy. Cassidy is an "ordinary" introverted, bookstore employee, who is an good girl. Luke is an ex-convict badass. It was a reeeeally slow burn. Although, I loved the attraction between them but it was a bit frustrating. I would love to continue on.
